On a recent trip to the Isle of Wight I was blissfully unaware of a crime phenomenon that was gripping the small island. It turns out there have been numerous reported technology-related injuries, and not through the most obvious means either. No, no, not content with the odd electric shock or what not, the islanders have taken to road rage-type abuse on one another.
The local media have whipped up frenzy around the recent spate of batterings that typically occur in the home, inflicted onto the man of the house by the lady of the manor. The psychological standpoint of the attacks is still unknown but they tend to occur when the male assumes ignorance of the female when it comes to the latest technology. A profile of the attacks is starting to emerge and they usually occur when the male erases TV programmes recorded onto such devices, and when confronted by the female blames it on the technology.
The ‘Isle of Wight Gazette’ reports that “It was only at a recent Ladies Circle meeting that the female population of Ryde realised that the same programmes were repeatedly wiped off, including housewives favourite, ‘Loose Women’.
“Mrs. Kirkham of Longridge Road admitted to the Gazette, “When I found out David and all the other men of the island were lying about where our recordings had got to I suddenly felt anger and the need to clobber him over the head. I can only describe it as road rage...he wasn’t expecting such a hard drive!”
And to think they call islanders Corkheads!
